Appointment of DGSA's

An employer who transports dangerous goods by road, rail or inland waterway must appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor by 31st December 1999.

Task of the Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor

Initial Survey

On being appointed a DGSA, by an employer, a precise survey of all the employers' activities would be carried out.
(The time taken for such an initial survey would depend on the extent of activities involved).

Remedial Action

After completion of the initial survey, an audit would be carried out to ensure procedures needed to comply with current legislation were put in place.
(Half to one day, should be sufficient).

Annual Reports

The employer will receive an annual report on the activities of the undertaking concerning the transport of dangerous goods, on completion of the end of year audit.

Any accident involving the storage, handling or transporting of dangerous goods, must be reported to the DGSA, who will investigate such incidents and send a report to the employer. These reports MUST be retained for a minimum of five years.
